Farmers expect the better price for onion

Lasalgaon, Asia’s major onion sector exported about 480 tonnes onion to Bangladesh this week via parcel educate and traders said that extra export is feasible thinking about the growing demand. Farmers hope that onion rates will go up with the rise in export.

Nashik onion will go to Darshana and other markets in Bangladesh. According to traders in Lasalgaon, growing demand from Bangladesh is a superior signal as onion shares are piled up in storages due to absence of demand in the Indian sector. Recurrent lockdown and closure of the hotel market have influenced the demand.

The rate of bulb crop in Nashik is involving ₹900-1100 ( for every quintal) and it might only go up if demand in global sector increases said traders. Farmers have been demanding that the State and Centre should acquire onion as shares in storages are obtaining ruined and farmers would have to put up with large losses.

“As of now there is enough stock to cater the need to have of domestic and global sector and there would be a shortage of onion,” said trader Jaydatta Holkar. He predicted that there would be not significantly fluctuation in selling price in the upcoming number of weeks.
