Shinzo Abe Visits Tokyo War Shrine Linked to Militarist Past
TOKYO—Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Saturday frequented a Tokyo shrine joined to Japan’s militarist previous, waiting only 3 times soon after his departure from business to resume a longstanding exercise that had angered Asian neighbors.
Mr. Abe frequented the Yasukuni Shrine on Dec. 26, 2013, a year soon after getting business, prompting a scarce rift with the U.S. At the time, the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo explained it was dissatisfied that Mr. Abe had “taken an action that will exacerbate tensions with Japan’s neighbors.”
